JIM DICKINSON

El gran músico de Memphis Jim Dickinson ha fallecido a los 67 años este sábado 15 de agosto

Habia sido operado del corazón recientemente.

En 1966 grabó el tema "Cadillac Man" para Sun Records con el grupo The Jesters,banda dónde tocaba también un hijo de Sam Philips,Jerry Philips
En los 60 y 70 colaboro con los Rolling Stones,Willy DeVille, Green on Red, Mojo Nixon, The Replacements,The Cramps,Tav Falco's Panther Burns, Screamin' Jay Hawkins...a quienes produjo discos.
Impresionante versión del "Red Headed Woman" de Sonny Burgess con los Cramps a finales de los 70,y sus colaboraciones con gente como Tav Falco.

LES PAUL R.I.P

Les Paul, el gran guitarrista,ha muerto a los 94 años por complicaciones de una neumonía en Nueva York.
Un maestro de la guitarra eléctrica que combinó diversos sonidos,country,jazz...etc,y cuyo estilo fue primordial e influyente en muchos guitarristas que surgieron en los 50 con el rock and roll.

Les Paul comenzó a tocar country y jazz y acompañó a músicos como Bing Crosby o Nat King Cole.


Su período de mayor éxito fue en el que formó dúo con su mujer Mary Ford grabando en Capitol clásicos como "How High The Moon" o "Bye Bye Blues"

BILLY LEE RILEY HA MUERTO

Hoy domingo 2 de agosto ha muerto Billy Lee Riley,uno de los grandes nombres del rock and roll de Sun Records.
Nacido en Pocahontas (Arkansas) el 5 de octubre de 1933 tenia casi 76 años.
Grabaria en Sun Records con los Little Green Men temas como "Trouble Bound","Rock with me baby","Flyin' Saucer Rock And Roll","Red Hot" de Billy "The Kid" Emerson,"Down by the riverside","Betty & Dupree" de Chuck Willis o "Sweet William".
Temas que no tuvieron la repercusión merecida porque Sam Philips se dedicó a la promoción de Jerry Lee Lewis más que de nadie.
En los 60 produciria discos,grabaria temas en diversas compañias y volveria con el revival grabando nuevos discos para compañias como Hightone Records.
Una verdadera pena,era mi gran idolo de todos los que pasaron por Sun,el que tenia una voz impresionante para cantar rnb y ser tal vez el que más alma negra tenia junto a Elvis

Ahi quedan "Flyin' saucer rock and roll", su versión del tema de Billy "The Kid" Emerson "Red Hot","Rock with me baby","Baby please don't go","Dance with me honey","Down by the riverside"...y tantos otros temas entre propios y versiones grabados con los Little Green Men,los mejores músicos de Sun,Roland Janes,Jimmy Van Eaton,Marvin Pepper o Jerry Lee Lewis mismo

He tenido la oportunidad de verle dos veces,y aun conservo la entrada de la primera vez que le vi en Barcelona,y de decirle mientras me firmaba el vinilo doble "You're the best of Sun Records".
Un cáncer de huesos se lo ha llevado a los 75 años
