Sam Philips

Se cumple el 85 aniversario del nacimiento de Sam Philips,nació el 5 de enero de 1923. En 1950 creó los Memphis Recording Service,servicio de grabaciones para los artistas que querian grabar canciones por un precio de 4 dólares. Descubrió a músicos de blues,como Howlin' Wolf,Rufus Thomas,Ike Turner o Doctor Ross,descubrió a Elvis que grabó en sus estudios un tema para su madre...fundó la Sun Records,con artistas como Elvis,Jerry Lee Lewis,Carl Perkins,Johnny Cash,Roy Orbison,Billy Lee Riley,Warren Smith...en fin...su nombre significa Rock & Roll. Creaba sellos paralelos como Philips International con grandes músicos como Charlie Rich o Carl Mann. En el año 1969 vendió su compañia a Shelby Singleton,y se dedicó al negocio inmobiliario. Murió en agosto del 2003 con 80 años.

Ken Nelson

Ha muerto Ken Nelson productor del sello Capitol.Ken Nelson, productor de Capitol Records y miembro del Country Music Hall of Fame, murió el domingo 6 de enero del 2008 a los 96 años según confirmaba su hija,Claudia Nelson.Produjo a artistas como Tennessee Ernie Ford, Merle Travis,HankThompson, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard,Gene Vincent, Tommy Sands, Ferlin Husky,Wynn Stewart, Tommy Collins,Jean Shepard...etc.Nació el 19 de enero de 1911 en Caledonia,Minessota,y creció en un orfanato de Chicago,en la década de los años 30 empezaba a trabajar en la radio,en la emisora de Chicago WJJD dónde sería nombrado directivo,y en 1948 entraría a trabajar en Capitol Records en el área de música country,siendo el gran productor de la compañía en los años 50.
